Following a highly successful pilot held at Maidstone Museum, Art Uniting People is holding an art exhibition at County Hall, Maidstone starting on 4th July for three weeks.

Art is something we can all enjoy and everybody can attempt, no matter what our background, circumstances or capabilities. We would especially to encourage anyone suffering or recovering from illness, disability or any sort of trauma, as well as carers to get to work and use (or discover) their artistic talents with a view to submitting them for consideration for displaying in the July 2009 Exhibition. Entries may be in the form of paintings or photographs. All items selected for exhibiting will be chosen on merit.

Art Uniting People has received the enthusiastic support of KCC, Maidstone Borough Council, the Mayor, Dan Daly, local service users and carers, the voluntary sector, professional artists, MVAN, and many others. Several local artists have agreed to support the exhibition by submitting some of their own work to be shown along side art by amateurs. We aim to display a whole spectrum of artists from novice to professional from across Kent and make it an enjoyable experience for the whole community.

Who can exhibit?

Anyone can apply to have their art displayed at our exhibition. No matter your age, race, skill level, circumstances or any disabilities you may have. Art Uniting People want to display a whole spectrum of artists from novice to professional. If you feel you have a flair for art, then please get in touch. Pictures to display will be chosen on merit.

What sort of art can I submit?

For the current exhibition, we are looking for photographs and paintings. However, if you have any art that can be framed and hung - then please get in touch. As long as you have created it yourself, we would be interested in as many diverse mediums and subjects as possible. Portraits, landscapes, still life and abstract art are welcomed, however we cannot accept any artwork that may be deemed offensive to the general public.

Can I sell my pictures?

Absolutely. While you do not have to put your artwork up for sale, if you would like to sell any pictures - then simply let us know how much you would like to charge. Art Uniting People will be taking a 10% commission for every picture sold, so you may want to factor that in to your price. If you choose not to sell your pictures, or they are unsold during the exhibition - then they will be returned to the artists.

Do my pictures need to be framed?

Yes. Due to the expenses of framing, artists must have all artwork framed before they can be hung. To comply with regulations, pictures must have mirror plates to hang them. If you require help with framing your pictures, then please get in contact. Framing for the exhibition is being sponsored by Anthony Saward Galleries, Maidstone who will offer a 20% discount to artists who can produce a completed Art Uniting People voucher.

How many pictures can I submit?

You can submit up to three items in mixed mediums to be exhibited.

Does it cost anything to exhibit?

There is a small £2 non-returnable fee for per item. A maximum of £6 for three items.
